Adhesive for powder coating process applications

Two part structural adhesives technical information

Structural Adhesives 2202 /2206 and 2203NF are methyl methacrylate (which is the methyl ester of methacrylate acid). Its primary use is to manufacture a number of different plastics, but it is also the main ingredient in our range of adhesive products.

Methacrylate adhesives are supplied in a two part system that, when mixed, offer a controlled cure speed suited to the application. The cured adhesive can offer incredibly high tensile, shear and peel strength, whilst also resisting impact loads at both elevated and sub zero temperatures.

New Generation adhesives 2202 and 2206 offer high functional shear strength after the initial cure, which when further increases following an additional heat process.  This unique chemistry allows these grades to not only maintain a high functional strength through the powder coating process, but actually improve in all aspects of functional strength performance.  Both systems share common attributes, differing only in functional cure-speeds, allowing good application diversity from the same core chemistry.

2203NF is a non-flammable, new generation adhesive and represents a new level of performance for all 10:1 low shrinkage high elongation structural Methacrylate adhesive.  2203 offers a very tough and flexible bond, with high peel, fatigue and impact strength, at both low and elevated temperatures.  Formulated from our innovative and bespoke blend of low-odour, non-flammable and non-carcinogenic monomers, this grade further extends our progress into responsible chemistry.

Two part structural adhesive 2202, 2206 and 2203NF are unrivalled in terms of convenience, ease of use and superior mechanical strength. Use for bonding aluminium, stainless steel. mild steel, UPVC, Polyesters, Granite, Marble, to name just a few compatible substrates.  For more information please request our technical data sheets.

Structural Adhesives 2202, 2206 & 2203NF – How to apply

Our two part 10:1 ratio new generation, structural adhesive 2202 has a 2-4 minute open time and a Fixture time of 4-6 minutes.  2206 has a 6-10 minute open time and a Fixture time of 12-15 minutes.  2203NF has an open time of 3-4 minutes and a Fixture time of 7/10 minutes.Once mixed the working time of both products is the period whereby the adhesive remains fluid and is easily transferable between two or more mating surfaces.  Temperature, volume and substrate have a direct effect on the length of this period as both products cure by exothermic reaction.  Higher temperatures and larger volumes speed the reaction causing a reduction in open and cure time.  Lower temperatures and smaller volumes slow the reaction time extending both the open and time and ultimate full cure time.  Before dispensing, ensure that surfaces are clean, dry and free of any dirt, dust and grease. For the best results, we recommend using CTA IPA Cleaner Degreaser.

  • Use sufficient pressure over the whole surface at room temperature to ensure maximum adhesion to substrates.
  • The ideal application temperature is between 15 – 25°C.
  • Primers can increase the bond durability and surface tension for difficult to bond materials. We recommend CTA Primer or CTA UV Identifiable Primer to achieve the best results.
  • Ensure uniform stress distribution.
